New Toilet Block
We are very excited to be able to open our new toilets in the North building next week. These toilets mirror the design taken by many high schools. The toilets have an open plan design, with individual gender specific private cubicles and communal sink area. Research has shown that this design improves safety within schools as toilet areas can be monitored more easily and can reduce the potential for bullying without compromising privacy.
Outside each block of toilets will be a certificate to recognise the hard work and dedication of two of our students. During the first lockdown, for the month of June 2020, Hannah and Kerenza, currently in Year 11, walked 6 kilometres every morning , carrying 15kg, to raise money for the toilet twinning charity. The distance and weight were chosen by them as this is the typical distance and weight that women and children in under developed countries have to walk and carry to collect water for their villages. They walked every day in June, whatever the weather, spoke on radio Norfolk twice to raise awareness. They had hoped to raise enough to sponsor one toilet block at school and amazingly raised over £4000, enough to sponsor all toilet blocks and many taps in the school. What an amazing achievement and involvement in such a project reflects our core values as a community of accepting responsibility, demonstration determination and showing humility. Well done Hannah and Kerenza!
