Celebrating Women in Wymondham
On Friday the 24th of May the Feminist Society spent the day putting up handmade plaques around Wymondham.
This art project is a trail of plaques throughout Wymondham set up by the Wymondham High Academy Feminist Society, in collaboration with Rosie's Plaques. We wanted to make a practical and positive difference in our community, by celebrating women in the local area. The plaques also hold significance as only 12% of British Heritage Plaques are dedicated to (non-mythical) women.
The trail of our blue plaques takes you from the High School, through Wymondham town centre and out to the Abbey, stopping along the way at some more inconspicuous landmarks - each one relevant to the women we are celebrating - see our blog posts for the biography related to each plaque!
As shown on the map above:
1) Margaret Reeve - Wymondham High Academy, Folly Rd
2) Anna Mudeka - Wymondham High Sixth Form, Norwich Rd
3) WWI Women - Wymondham Heritage Museum
4) Ethel Gooch - Wymondham Central Hall, Back Ln
5) Josephine Reynolds - Glamourous Gowns, 24 Market St
6) Clara Willet - Abbey railings, Church St
We hope you enjoy the trail and discover more about these inspiring women - past and present!
