Welcome to the Governors' Page

We hope you will be able to find out a little more about us on this page and through the links listed.

We currently have 18 governors who fall under four categories, local authority, staff, parents and community. Before the end of term there will be a governor profile for each member of our governing body, so you can to find out more about them and the types of things they get involved in.

The Governing Body does not manage the school as this is the role of the Principal and the senior leadership team. It does however oversee the development of the school with the main aim being to always provide a high standard of education for all pupils of all abilities.

The Governing Body has three main roles:

  • Strategic - Setting the general direction of the school.
  • Critical Friend - Working together with the Principal creating a clear understanding of the challenges faced in managing a school.
  • Accountability - The Governing Body must have a professional attitude and use its collective skills to benefit the learners. It must gather views, ask questions and decide what is best for the school.


You may be aware that we also have a range of policies. These are reviewed and updated by the governing body on a timely basis - some of them are being updated at the moment and will appear later in the term. They are listed to the right of this page and available for you to select and view online.

Whole School Single Equality Scheme Action Plan

The Public Sector Equality Duty

The specific duties regulations require schools/academies:

  • to publish information to demonstrate how they are complying with the Public Sector Equality Duty, and
  • to prepare and publish equality objectives relating to all protected characteristics - race, disability, sex, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity and gender reassignment.


The Academy, in carrying out its functions, will have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Act,
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it,
  • Foster good relations across all characteristics - between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.


The Academy has a statutory duty to have 'due regard' when making a decision or taking an action and will assess whether it may have implications for people with particular protected characteristics.
